The 71st winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Wednesday 30th April 1879 over the Rowley Mile, was Charibert (25/1), a chestnut colt by Thormanby out of Gertrude, owned by the 6th Viscount Falmouth. The winner won by 1 1/2 lengths in 1 minute 51 secs, with 4 lengths between second and third. A field of 15 runners contested the race which was worth £6,250 (Equivalent to £681,300 in 2017)
